Alimento unpacked: what’s in the box and how to store it

You’ve chosen your meals, confirmed your order, and your Alimento delivery is on its way… now what?

While you’re eagerly awaiting the arrival of your tasty soft foods, you might be wondering what to expect and what to do when it’s delivered.

Well, wonder no more: this is Alimento, unboxed.

What arrives in your Alimento box?

When the package containing your Birds Eye Soft Meals arrives, open it up to find your six meals neatly packed in rectangular boxes.

Inside the box, you’ll also find several small envelopes of dry ice. This ensures the meals remain frozen during transit and delivery.

How should you store your meals?

Because they arrive frozen, your meals can be stored in the freezer until you’re ready to eat them. Remove the meal boxes from your delivery package, and store them at -18°C or lower. The meals are not suitable for refreezing after they’ve been cooked or defrosted.

The boxes are rectangular, and all come in the same size, so stacking them in the freezer is easy.

If you’re not at home when the package is delivered, we can leave it with a neighbour as long as they’re able to sign for it. The dry ice will ensure the food remains frozen until 6pm on the day of delivery, giving you time to get back and put them in the freezer before they defrost.

Recycling and disposing of your packaging

At Alimento, we’re committed to the environment and encourage recycling wherever possible. The majority of our packaging is recyclable (and we’re working on the rest).

When you’ve unpacked your meals, leave the dry ice envelopes in the outer box for 24 hours. This will allow time for the dry ice to fully evaporate; just remember to keep out of the reach of children and pets. After this time, the outer box and envelopes can be separated and recycled.

After you’ve consumed your meal, the individual box, sleeve and meal try can be recycled in most local domestic recycling schemes. The tray lid should be disposed of in the domestic waste.
